Addressing Bee Deaths Daejeon City Councilor Takes Action

In response to the concerning issue of mass bee deaths at beekeeping farms, Daejeon City Councilor Song Hyeung-seop has taken decisive action, issuing orders for immediate measures. This directive was given during the 274th regular session of the Industrial Construction Committee, where Councilor Song conducted an administrative audit of the Agricultural Technology Centre's responsibilities.

Councilor Song raised critical questions about the Daejeon Agricultural Technology Center's efforts in improving productivity through 'ICT (information and communication technology) based smart agricultural technology distribution.' He also emphasized the importance of expanding open field crops in smart agriculture for the benefit of farmers, stating that Daejeon, as a science city, can significantly contribute to enhancing agricultural efficiency.

However, recognizing the persistent issue of bee colony deaths affecting beekeepers in Daejeon, Councilor Song shifted focus to the potential consequences for agriculture as a whole. He emphasized the interconnectedness of bee health with orchard farmers and the broader agricultural industry. Councilor Song stressed the urgency of analyzing the aftermath of bee deaths on the beekeeping industry and urged the preparation of fundamental measures.

"Immediate attention to the disappearing bee population is crucial, not only for the livelihood of orchard farmers but for the entire agricultural landscape," remarked Councilor Song. This order reflects a commitment to preserving the delicate balance within ecosystems and safeguarding essential pollinators that play a vital role in agriculture.
