Chesterfield Honey Bee Festival returns with new location, expanded hours

Chesterfield is buzzing with the return of the 13th annual Honey Bee Festival this weekend.

The festival, which will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, will be held at the Chesterfield County Fairgrounds with a variety of family-friendly activities.

The new location will feature live music by the Bee Flats, local honey, beekeeping supplies for sale, educational talks, face painting, food trucks and more.

The annual festival is hosted by the Rockwood Park Backyard Beekeepers Association to help others learn about the importance of pollinators and honeybees in the environment.

“Bees go two to three miles away from the hives to collect nectar and pollen,” Don Osborne, president of the Rockwood Park Backyard Beekeepers Association, told 8News. “I can control my property and make sure everything I do is natural and organic and good for the bees, but I don’t know what my neighbor is doing a half a mile away. So, our mission is to educate people on beekeeping and pollinators.”

Saturday’s festival is free and open to the public.
