Community builder: Iara Pavon
Iara Pavon, is a vibrant 21-year-old who has called Vanderhoof home since her family immigrated from Argentina in January 2012. Known locally for their honey business, the Pavon family has become an integral part of the Vanderhoof community known for their beekeeping activities.
Beyond her role on the honey farm, Pavon contributes significantly to the Nechako Valley Historical Society (NVHS) as the curator and administrator.
For the past three years, she has immersed herself in preserving local history, managing artifacts, conducting tours, organizing events, and digitizing records—tasks that highlight her passion for heritage and community engagement.
When asked about the best part of living in Vanderhoof, Pavon says its the people!
Her involvement in 4-H for nine years fostered her extroverted nature and honed her public speaking skills, which she applies during museum tours and educational sessions for local schools.
"During this school season, I had the opportunity of helping with tours for Elementary Schools at the Museum and I always enjoy interacting with kids and adults, especially when it comes to sharing with things I’m passionate about like our towns history and even beekeeping," she says.
Pavon's community involvement extends beyond her museum work. As a former 4-H BC Ambassador from 2020- 2022 and a Candy Striper at the St. John Hospital, she values opportunities to connect with others and give back to the community, she says.
Along with her sister, Pavon occasionally hosts beekeeping workshops at schools, the local library and sometimes at events around neighbouring communities such as Prince George.
In her downtime, Pavon channels her creativity into two side ventures– BumbleBuzz Graphics & Design – her graphic design business, and crafting keychains, earrings, and merchandise.
Pavon says she is using her passion for creativity to serve as means to save for her future education.
"If you don’t find me at the museum, you will most likely find me selling somewhere in the area," she adds cheekily.
