Family dog killed by swarm of bees, owner says

A family’s dog was killed after a swarm of bees attacked it, according to the family.

Tiffany Ahmu told KUSI she was in the backyard with her children and niece when they were attacked.

Ahmu said she heard her daughter call for her, and when she walked out, the swarm of bees looked like “black smoke.”

The bees first targeted Kona, the family’s dog, before coming after Ahmu and the children.

Ahmu and her husband got the children inside and called 911.

Firefighters arrived on the scene and sprayed the swarm of bees with water to protect the family and allow them to be taken to the hospital.

“We have bee hoods and things to keep us from getting stung, so they used the water to bring the patient from the house to the ambulance … and it turned out there were even bees inside the house,” Battalion Chief Dave Hardenburger told KUSI.

Kona did not survive the attack.

The family said they are heartbroken but added that they feel “blessed.”

“God was protecting us,” Ahmu said.
