Honeybees lose last game of season

In the final game of the first season of play by the Minot Honeybees in the Northwoods League, even the weather wanted to cling to the season just a bit longer. The game, scheduled to start at 6:35 p.m. on Monday, August 5, was delayed by weather and did not finish until nearly 10 p.m.

The Habaneros finished the season atop the league with a 30-10 record and a 7-3 mark over the past ten games. The Honeybees ended the season at 10-31 with a 3-7 record over the last ten games.

Mankato would take the last match with a 10-0 win at home.

The Habaneros scored one run at the bottom of the first inning of play and added four more runs at the bottom of the third for the 4-0 lead. They would add two more at both the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings before adding one final run at the bottom of the sixth for the ten run total.

Minot was 5-for-23 at the plate and played error free ball. Jasmine Blizzard was a perfect 2-for-2 batting. Dominique Baker was 1-for-2 while Sydney Farmer and Shayna Myshrall were both 1-for-3 at the plate. The Honeybees had six players left on base during the game.

Kierra Fournier pitched two and two-third innings and allowed five runs on four hits. Peyton Whitehead pitched one and one-third innings and allowed two runs on one hit. Jenna Boos pitched one and one-third innings as well and allowed three runs on three hits in relief.

Mankato was 8-for-23 batting and had one error as a team. Brooke Holmes was 2-for-3 with four RBIs at the plate. Savannah Teale was 2-for-4 batting. Jessa Snippes pitched all six innings and allowed the five hits, no walked batters and recorded four strikeouts in the win.

Earlier this week, Jackie Albrecht was named Honeybee of the Year.

Per the media release, “Albrecht has led the way to success on the field for the Minot Honeybees while also making contributions to the community. Albrecht, a pitcher from the University of North Dakota and originally from Barrington, Illinois, was rewarded for her efforts with the Honeybee of the Year Award.”

Albrecht had a record of 5-6 with a 4.92 earned run average in 64 innings for the Honeybees this summer. She also led the Bees pitching room in strikeouts, batting average against and saves.
