New beekeepers club is stirring up a buzz

Though many people fear bees, others find them fascinating. The new Sumter County Beekeepers Club was formed with those folks in mind.

The club was founded in June to provide education and mentorship to anyone who shares an interest in bees.

“I was getting a lot of people in Sumter County that wanted to have a bee mentor, so I figured we needed to start a club in Sumter County,” club president Tim Reed said. “We just decided there’s a vacuum, and now we’ve got people coming from The Villages, Marion County, Citrus County, Sumter County, some people from Polk County and people coming from Lake County. They’re kind of just gravitating.”
