 Training-cum-workshopon scientific beekeeping


A three-day training-cum-workshop on, “Scientific Beekeeping for Sustainable Honey Production and Pollination” organized by All India Coordinated Research Project and department of Entomology was held from August 28 to 30, at School of Agricultural Sciences, Nagaland University, Medziphema.


A press release by SAS NU, informed that resource persons for the training were Dr Imtinaro L, Dr Pankaj Neog, Dr Avinash Chauhan, Dr Hijam Shila Devi, Dr Waluniba, Dr Sabbithi S Pawan, Dr Damitri and Dr Rokozeno, all from department of Entomology, who also led the practical sessions and hands on training.


During the technical sessions, a total of 12 presentations were made along with daily practical sessions of two hours covering major aspects of scientific beekeeping such as importance of apiculture, classification, colony organization and bee biology, bee equipment, bee communication, handling of bee colonies and maintenance of bee records, etc.


Earlier, in the inaugural session, Pro-Vice chancellor, Prof. Akali Sema, and dean, SAS, NU, Prof. L. Daiho, served as special guests. Prof. Sema enlightened trainees on benefits and importance of beekeeping in maintaining ecosystem services and increasing income of beekeepers, while Prof Daiho focussed on conservation of bees for sustainable future of bees and mankind.


Altogether 10 trainees from four different units of Para Military forces Doyang, Kiphire, Kohima, and Medziphema, attended and participated in the training programme along with students.
