WEATHER for 15 days, Italy divided between Bad Weather and Unusual Heat

In the last few hours, we have witnessed a worsening of weather and climate conditions. A very significant worsening, especially in the Center-North, caused by an intense depression from the north and the consequent deepening of a secondary cyclonic vortex between the Ligurian Sea and the Northern Tyrrhenian Sea.   The weather will remain unstable at least until Sunday, with the extension of phenomena – albeit patchy – towards Southern Italy.   Another element to consider: temperatures.

The temperature drop is proving to be nothing short of significant; we can talk about a real collapse.

The northern ventilation, progressively increasing, will further accentuate the feeling of coolness or even cold.

Keep in mind that locally we will have temperatures even 10°C below seasonal averages.   For an improvement, we will have to wait until the beginning of next week, but not for everyone.

It seems that the subtropical anticyclonic ridge will be able to spread towards Southern Italy and between the two major islands, while showing enormous difficulties in reaching the North.   This is because the flow of Atlantic currents will continue to push unstable impulses in that direction, and for this reason, a period of diametrically opposite weather will open between the North and the South. On one side the return of heat, on the other side the persistence of bad weather.   A dichotomy that could continue until mid-month, when authoritative model projections seem to indicate a more convincing anticyclonic attempt.

An attempt that, if it really succeeds, could open the doors to the “Ottobrata,” a period of good weather characterized by temperatures well above seasonal averages.   It would be, in all respects, a tail end of summer, but as already widely highlighted by some colleagues, it would statistically be the period with the highest probability of abnormal heat.

It must be said, however, that these are hypotheses and as such will need further confirmation in the coming days.   What we can say, however, is that October is also proving to be a fluctuating month and could be even more so than September.
