The Great Bee Exhibition. Polish handicrafts in Switzerland

This is the second edition of the exhibition – after the first edition at the Institute of Industrial Design in Warsaw in 2023, which won wide acclaim from the public, the exhibition has now come to Switzerland. In the picturesque town of Rapperswil, a unique event, the ‘Great Bee Exhibition’, which passionately celebrates and promotes biodiversity and the protection of wild bees, opened on 27.10.2024, on the initiative of the Polish-Swiss Institute for Culture and Education and the Polish Embassy in Switzerland.

The exhibition brought together the work of artists, artisans and ecologically responsible brands who wish to draw attention to the fundamental role of bees in the ecosystem through applied art, design and crafts.

The inauguration day also saw the premiere of a painting by Joanna Sarapata and a unique porcelain by Stanislaw Brach, which added new artistic touches to the exhibition and increased its value for art lovers.

The project’s originator and leader of the Together for Bees movement, Diana Dyba, gave an inspiring lecture on the role of wild bees in preserving nature’s balance. She highlighted how the destruction of wild bee populations affects the disappearance of plants and the disruption of ecosystems, which ultimately affects each of us. “Every species is a piece of the puzzle – it’s what allows nature and ecosystems to function in harmony,” said Dyba, who has been intensively involved in promoting natural biodiversity for the past four years.

As part of the opening and celebration of the Education Day organised by the Polish-Swiss Institute for Culture and Education, there was also an educational workshop for children and parents, led by Diana. Children had the opportunity to understand what biodiversity is and the importance of ecological connections.

“What we choose every day – from the materials our clothes are made of to the food we eat – has a huge impact on nature. It is my dream that major brands rely on local makers, wearable art, design and quality instead of mass production,” – Dyba added, emphasising the importance of conscious consumption.

“The Great Bee Exhibition is a perfect example of how art, responsible production and environmental education can build ecological awareness. It is a step towards protecting wildlife and preserving priceless species.

The exhibition is also available online on the author’s website jestemwlesie.pl i togetherforbees.com. WhiteMAD magazine was a media patron of the event.
