Weather: ANOMALOUS November, here’s what we risk
Very mild climate, especially at altitude
Over the next few weeks, temperatures in various areas of the country are expected to rise sharply, exceeding the seasonal average values by as much as 5-10 degrees.
In some Italian cities, daytime temperatures could exceed 25°C, an unusual value for November, with higher peaks expected in Central and Southern Italy. Even the North, although less affected, will experience mild and sunny days with temperatures around 20°C, a rather unusual value for the period, especially without the aid of the foehn wind. The African anticyclone will therefore guarantee a prolonged period of atmospheric stability, allowing Italians to enjoy a climate that is not typical of a generally rainy and cold month.
The reason
The African Anticyclone, responsible for these abnormal temperatures, extends from North Africa towards the Mediterranean and brings with it warm and dry air.
This type of pattern stabilizes the atmosphere and hinders the formation of clouds and rain, creating ideal conditions to maintain warmth and low humidity in the southern areas.
The usual lack of precipitation in a generally rainy autumn month is one of the most worrying consequences, especially in areas that have already faced significant water shortages in previous months.
The role of Global Warming
Although episodes of abnormal heat are certainly not new, the frequency with which they occur has increased in recent years, raising alarms among climatologists and meteorologists.
The ongoing climate change, in fact, leads to a rise in temperatures even in unusual periods, disrupting normal atmospheric patterns and making extreme events more frequent. In this context, the African Anticyclone tends to reach higher latitudes than in the past, moving northwards and influencing the climate of regions like our peninsula, which in November should usually be under the influence of cold and unstable currents.
The duration is impressive
Weather forecasts for the coming days confirm that the African Anticyclone will remain stable over Italy, bringing high temperatures during the day, while the night will experience a slight thermal drop but will still maintain milder than normal values.
The abnormal conditions are not limited to our country: other Mediterranean nations, such as Spain and southern France, will also experience exceptional temperatures, well above seasonal averages, due to the influence of this anticyclone. For purely informational purposes, in cities like Rome, Naples, and Palermo, temperatures above 25°C are expected, while even northern cities like Milan and Turin could record values close to 20°C.
Only fog could limit the rise in thermal values.
Cold at night, but only induced
The cooler temperatures, typical of the night, will still remain above the seasonal average, creating an unusually mild climate for the entire month of November.
Medium-term forecasts indicate that the persistence of the African Anticyclone could extend until mid-November, maintaining stable conditions throughout the peninsula. Any Atlantic disturbances, which could brush against northern Italy, will only partially affect temperatures which, despite a slight decrease, will continue to remain above the average for the month.
