Four seasons of honeybee

Four Seasons Resort Whistler introduces rooftop beekeeping, allowing guests to enjoy an immersive beekeeping experience and showcase organic honey in their culinary creations.

The rooftops of Four Seasons Resort and Residences Whistler are bustling with life, welcoming an extraordinary influx of nearly one million new residents. Nestled among Whistler’s stunning mountains and lush forests, these rooftop hives provide a picturesque and vibrant home for honeybees.

As summer unfolds, it brings with it a wave of renewal, fresh ideas, and a perfect time to honor our planet. The alarming decline in honeybee populations in recent years has led to significant environmental concerns, highlighting the critical role these pollinators play. In response, the mountain resort is taking proactive steps to support bee conservation and promote sustainable living. They’ve installed sixteen new beehives on their rooftops, each one buzzing with activity. Sabrina Offers, Director of Residences, is leading the effort, noting, “This initiative is one of several measures we’re taking on the property to ensure we’re committed to a more sustainable future—for our environment, for the local community, and for our guests.”

The resort comes alive every Friday from 4:00pm to 5:30pm with the “Meet Our Resident Queen Bee” event, where guests can join the expert beekeeper for a demonstration and learn more about this fascinating initiative. Beginning July 8, 2024, guests can participate in the private Beekeeping Experience, an immersive two-hour session where they will learn about the importance of global bee health through detailed analytics and real-time hive monitoring. Participants can visit the private residences’ roof hives and watch the bees busily producing honey. Wearing protective gear, guests can safely interact with the bees under the guidance of the beekeeper, creating sweet memories and taking home a jar of their own honey.

The hard work of the bees is on display in the resort’s delectable culinary offerings. Freshly harvested, house-made organic honey is featured in a variety of mouthwatering dishes. At Braidwood Tavern, the breakfast menu features honey drizzled over the Greek Yogurt Bowl, with honeycomb adding a delicious touch to start the day. For dinner, the Spot Prawn Tartare is enhanced with a mountain honey and chive dressing, along with Transmontanus caviar and wild herbs. The Lemon-Honey Mousse finishes the meal on a sweet note, with raspberry crémeux and honey gel shortbread, lemon curd and honeycomb tuile.
