St. Peter approves beekeeping ordinance
A new city ordinance has approved beekeeping in St. Peter.
The city council voted 5-2 Monday to approve bees to be kept within city limits with a permit.
The permit will likely cost $50 and will come with restrictions, such as the equipment residents need to use and how the beehives can be constructed on properties.
The two dissenting votes came from a concern over the bees competing with native pollinators.
The new ordinance will go into effect this January.
