Marshall ISD team wins Marshall-Harrison County Literary Council's spelling bee

The Marshall ISD Curriculum and Instruction team earned first place in the Marshall Harrison County Literacy Council’s annual Corporate Spelling Bee last week.

Team members Lauren Hicks, Regina Jackson and Melissa Hammers correctly spelled “cummerbund” for the victory.

The school district noted its students represented Marshall High School well by spelling, cheering and volunteering at the event, which raises funds for the council’s programs.

The runner-up, receiving the Tim Huff/Cappuccino Memorial Award, was BlueCross BlueShield of Texas’s team: Sheri Fugler, Sheri Finklea and Trisha Woods.

The Spirit Stick winner was the Alco McWilliams team and supporters: Kenneth Johnson, Dustin Harrison, Mary Poppins, Kelsie Hopkins, Cody Neel, Adrian Maxwell and Connor Carroll.
