Bee keeping family taking care of bees

Most know that pollinators, particularly bees, are essential for our world’s ecosystem. For over a decade, one local family has been dedicated to bridging the gap between humans and bees, fostering understanding and appreciation for these vital creatures. Eugenia LaRue, a beekeeper and president of the Warren County Beekeeper Association, acknowledges the intimidation many feel when it comes to bees. “Bees are really intimidating,” she says, noting that the average person may hesitate to approach them alone.

However, as people learn more about the power of bees, their fears can transform into connection and respect. Eugenia emphasizes the importance of reconnecting with nature, especially in today’s anxiety-ridden world. “It is becoming more and more important for us to get in touch with nature,” she states, highlighting the calming influence bees can provide.

Kevin LaRue, another dedicated beekeeper, shares his personal experience with bees. “I don’t know if it’s the tone of the buzz or just the idea of being out here,” he explains, “but for me, this is like a relaxing time.” Together, Eugenia and Kevin are not only maintaining the lives of millions of bees but also changing the narrative surrounding them.

Eugenia reflects on her lessons from the hives, observing how bee colonies work together and care for one another. “Life and the way that all of nature works together is so important,” she notes. Indeed, humans and bees share more commonalities than many realize, and when we collaborate to protect them, the outcome can be remarkably positive. Kevin adds, “If we could just help them multiply and thrive, that’s one of the benefits we can all enjoy.”
