Algarve presents 250 applications for support for beekeeping for biodiversity

The Algarve submitted 250 applications for the European funding line “Support for beekeeping for biodiversity” of the Common Agricultural Policy Strategic Plan (PEPAC), whose period for accepting proposals ended on 13 September.

The 250 applications submitted correspond to a total expected support of around 1,1 million euros, “which reflects a strong support from Algarve beekeepers for this agro-environmental measure, and is also the first time that the measure has been implemented at a national level”, according to the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission.

«With the collaboration of the sectoral associations, the Beekeepers Association of Sotavento Algarvio (Melgarbe) and the Beekeepers Association of Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina, municipalities and parish councils and local development associations, the CCDR Algarve IP – Agriculture and Fisheries implemented, throughout the application submission period, a campaign to publicise the measure, both through its communication platforms and by holding decentralised information sessions, namely in São Bartolomeu de Messines (Silves), Salir (Loulé) and Mexilhoeira Grande (Portimão)», it adds.

Beekeepers can also, until 30 September, make the annual declaration of stocks, «which can be made directly in the Reserved Area of the IFAP Portal, at the CCDR Algarve IP – Agriculture and Fisheries, at the Regional Food and Veterinary Services Directorate (DSAVR) or at beekeepers' organisations registered with IFAP for this purpose».
