Bee sting incident forces temporary 'hold-in-place' at Brighton High School

Brighton High School was briefly under a "hold-in-place" Monday morning after several students and staff members were stung by bees during a fire drill.

A hold-in-place is when movement by students and staff should be limited while dealing with a short-term emergency, according to the New York State Department of Education.

According to the Brighton Central School District, the injured students were sent to the school's health office to be evaluated. Families of the impacted students will be notified by the school. The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m., said district spokesman Dan Goldman.

A pest professional will be summoned to the school Monday to address the nest of ground bees located outside the school, 1150 Winton Road, Brighton.
